The Indian film industry with hundreds of movies releasing each year is one of the largest movie-making industry in the world. Some also make it to the international fests, and some don’t. But nonetheless, films are made, released and distributed with every passing week. Bollywood gives rise to many stars every year and at the same time faces a lot of flak for nepotism. But there are some actresses who made a name for themselves in the industry despite facing all odds. Nepotism has been there in the news for a long time now. Anushka Sharma:
Anushka had no filmy backing even though she might have been a model with great ramp presence. She ended up making her debut for YRF movie with the legendary actor Shah Rukh Khan. The actress says that she had desperation of being in a Yash Raj movie and it completely worked in her favour. Today she is one of the highest-paid actresses in our country and has also produced the movie NH10, which was a great success at the box office.
Priyanka Chopra
She is the best examples of how to juggle being an actor, model, singer and producer. She made her debut as the second female lead in The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy after being crowned Miss World in 2000. Her negative role in Aitraaz was highly appreciated. Her later films were great hits and showed her in similar roles. She also had no special backing in the movie industry. The actress continued getting flop projects like Love Story 2050, Chamku, Drona, after which she was declared a failure. Critical acclaim came her way from the roles in Kaminey,Fashion, Barfi and eventually she landed in the hit biopic named Mary Kom. She also made her debut in the US as a singer in 2012. She also got a lead role in the American TV series Quantico in 2015 and also formed her production company Purple Pebble Pictures. Her production house produced the National Award-winning Marathi film Ventilator in 2016.
Deepika Padukone
She is the daughter of badminton player Prakash Padukone, but Deepika did not follow the same path. She entered the world of modelling instead and made her debut with the Farah Khan’s movie Om Shaanti Om. She had a string of five flops, and 2010-2011 was a bad time for Deepika. She struggled with mental health issues and a breakup, but she turned her weaknesses into her strength by giving stirring performances in Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram Leela and Tamasha. She also forayed in Hollywood in 2016 with Vin Diesel. She also launched her clothing brand All About You.
Kangana Ranaut
Kangana is one of those actresses who proudly wear the badge of being an outsider. Kangana is a three-time national award winner. She made it big in Bollywood and is now the highest-paid actresses in the country. This girl was from Himachal and made a sensational debut with the Bhatt production Gangster. She was given various other neurotic roles in movies like Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Krrish 3 after this. But the ‘National Award Winning’ actress bounced back with strong roles in Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. She turned heads at Cannes, became a top fashionista. She struggled through the scrutiny of her controversial relationships and is still continuing to reign Bollywood.
Vidya Balan
She started out with the hit TV show Hum Paanch but was getting cast mostly for advertisements. She had no filmy background.
She is a Masters in Sociology from Mumbai University. Her debut in the Bengali movie Bhalo Theko launched her into the world of Bollywood. She had really tough luck in the movie industry with a stalled project with superstar Mohanlal. This was what which led to her exit from 12 more movies. This was later credited as Pradeep Sarkar cast her in the music videos of Euphoria and also in the movie Parineeta which even won her awards for best debut. She came back with a bang on with Paa, Ishqiya and The Dirty Picture after a string of flops.
